About Windshield

The windshield was created shortly after the appearance of the car. In the first automobile design was not taken into consideration driver safety, windshield were completely absent. Drivers are protected from wind and dust with the aid of glasses similar to those worn by pilots. This drawback has led to the first car windshield ordinary glass, which allowed the challenge of serious injury in an accident. A single layer of untampered glass cannot provide driver safety and sharp shards can be fatal.

After a law in 1917 has been taken in terms of safety measures that need to ensure the windshield. The rudimentary auto windshields have since been replaced with tempered glass or secured, are mounted in a frame / rubber or neoprene seal.

The advantage they bring this new type of windshield consists of fragmentation in case of impact, much smaller pieces, almost harmless. Danger of injury due to broken fell considerably large, but small pieces and these could cause injury, even horrible when entering the eye.

In 1919, Henry Ford injuries with shards solve the problem by introducing a French technology laminating glass. Auto Windscreens created using this advanced technology consisted of two layers of glass in the middle of which is a layer of cellulose which aim at keeping together the first two, in case of a crack. From 1919 to 1929 all cars produced by Ford were equipped with laminated glass windshields. A major change that would eliminate crushing glass after an impact, preventing injuries.

Over time, the windshield has evolved dramatically improving the degree of protection. Today, it has the same role as safety belts or air bags. Modern automotive windshields are made of multiple layers of tempered glass: two layers treated curved glass and a layer of plastic laminate placed in the middle, giving the driver greater safety.
