How to Install a Vespa windshield

Vespa Scooters are a great way to get around town or travel long distances. Some models, like the GTS 300, can reach speeds of up to 80 mph. Vespa scooters do not come with a windshield, though. One can purchase separately in a kit from a Vespa dealer. Installing a windshield will help block the wind and rain during the trip. Installing an aftermarket windshield is easy and should not take more than an hour.

Explanation

  • Turn off the Vespa headset from all attachments. This includes mirrors and spare parts you have added, such as mirrors or frames. To remove the mirrors, turn counterclockwise until they are released from the handset.
  • Place the holes in the windshield brackets in the holes in the handset just below the handlebar. Thread the included screws with the windshield brackets through the holes with your fingers until they hold the brackets in place. Do not tighten yet.
  • Slide the windshield support arm onto the brackets. Tighten the screws on the windshield mount with a socket wrench.
  • Position the plastic windshield so that the bolt holes fit over the holes in the windshield support arms. Put the remaining rubber washers over the remaining bolts and tighten the windshield to the support arms with a wrench.
  • Return the mirrors and spare parts to the Vespa.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take the Vespa for a test after installing the windshield. Adjust and tighten the windshield as necessary.
  • Do not over tighten the screws as this may damage the windshield brackets and break the windshield.
