How to install windshield adjustment

There are a lot of relatively inexpensive things that you can do to improve the look of your vehicle and without resorting to paying an expert to complete the job. An addition is decorative windshield molding. Car dealers and auto parts stores can ask for the specific fit for your make, model and car year. Once the fit comes in, you should be able to install it in less than an hour, or even faster if you can convince someone to help you. You will want the adhesive to sit for about 24 hours before getting the windshield wet, so complete this project under cover if there is a chance of rain.

Explanation

  • Clean the windshield thoroughly, paying special attention to the edges. Use alcohol and a soft cotton cloth.
  • Unpack the trim. Check to see if the top, bottom and side pieces are the same, or if they are marked to position at the top, bottom left or right.
  • Before starting the application process, check that all the pieces fit.
  • Peel start the backrest off the top strip and gently apply across the top edge of the windshield, pressing firmly downward as you go. Depending on the car, there may be an apparent field where the molding should sit. If there is a slot, make sure that the setting is firmly pressed into the slot. If someone else is available to help, make them stand out on the other side and continue the process as long as you hold their firm side. If you are doing this project alone, work with care, ensuring the fit is adhering to the edge of the windshield as well.
  • Install the side pieces, installation of the bottom hard piece. Allow the adhesive to be prepared for a day before getting the windshield wet.
  • Replace the plastic clamps that hold the molding, if your make and model you have.
